The kids have a natural love for taking hikes. I am as pleased to watch them explore as I am to be out on the trail. These pictures are from a recent hike. The kids spent a good chunk of time playing on this little bridge. While Mikey enjoyed his break from the pack, Adam or I watched him with one hand reaching for his belt loops, just in case.
Our hiking pace has changed with a 3-year-old walking beside us and a 20-some pounder in tow. I'm already wandering what we'll do when there are 3 kids and only 2 sets of carrying shoulders. . . .

that lake looks beautiful. How long to hike there?
ReplyDeleteWith three kids, it will go something like this. You'll be saying, "Emily can you help Mikey while I take care of the baby ...help him buckle his car seat (or whatever).." and Mikey will be saying "No, I don't want her to help" because of coarse he will think he is just as big as her, as is the case with Curtis. He already think it's an injustice that India will be able to drive a car before he will, which says a lot about what he finds important in life. So, Emily & Mikey will just play together & be very silly while you take care of the baby first...they will be your big kids :) It's so fun! But what I'm really trying to get to is I love the pictures and love being outdoors with kids. Look at them, they're so happy. P.S. India still thinks it's so sad that she is not the one being carried anymore when she gets tired. Why can't she go on our shoulders? Life is hard when you're the oldest (and the heaviest).
ReplyDeleteCarrie and Tanner-just follow the Oregon Trail. Will take a while!
ReplyDeleteElsa, how old was Curtis when Sammy was born? 2 or 3? I really am a little worried about how it will be with 3 kids...I hope my kids really do want to be the big kids when #3 joins us.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up as the youngest in our fam, I will learn from Emily all the injustices of being the oldest.
Curtis turned 3 the same month Sammy was born. I never felt happier than when she was born. Which was such a blessing because I started out that pregnancy very serious & unready to be~ I won't say it's easy, the dishes don't get done for a long time...but Emily and Mikey will play together which helps. Call me~ And I was mostly teasing about India. She loves being the oldest and I remind her of that because she's the kind of girl who would hate seeing an older sister get her ears pierced first and all those things. So, we actually don't get complaints about that role, yet!
