Recent discoveries of an almost one year old

Mike's discovered the fun of flushing the toilet. When I'm busy in the kitchen, and the house is suddenly quiet, I listen carefully and can hear Mikey crawling up the stairs. The next thing I hear is the toilet flushing in the upstairs bathroom.

Mikey does things that tell me he's fearless (at least more so than Emily). He loves to feel the shower on his face during bath time. If he gets a hold of the rinsing cup in the bath, he'll try and try and try to take a drink. He doesn't seem to mind when he gets way too much water and gasps for air, which is what always happens.

He's very determined, too. If he's interested in something, he gives it his total attention. He's learning to walk, and totters all around the house now. It's fascinating to watch this boy grow and learn. And sometimes I have to watch him very close!

  1. Wow. He's huge. He's nothing like the baby that I still picture him to be.

That's especially awesome about the bath. It takes serious mental coaching before and during the bath to get them wet above the neck. I can't even tell you the energy we all exert to dispell Jonathan's fears of getting water on his face, let alone actually laying back in the water. He's honestly doing much better now, and I praise him like crazy about it. Mike's the man.

  2. Way to go Jonathan! Getting water on your face is a little surprising at first, but it also feels refreshing!
I don't think Mike would go for laying back in the water. Emily definitely will not. She's young enough that I don't try to get her to, but when she's older I hope she'll warm up to the idea. Kids are so funny!

Heh, I was just waiting for something like, "I hear him crawling up the stairs, and then I hear the toilet flush. And then I can't find my iPod, car keys, or my wallet."

  5. oh the adventures that await you all. When Curt was that age, Chris had to take the toilet apart a few times to retrieve different objects. :)

Oh boy. I hadn't thought of him dropping stuff in the toilet before flushing it...That has yet to happen.
Hope it's never my wallet or car keys.
