Michael had his first Baking 101 class with Emily and me the other morning. We worked together to bake a dozen applesauce muffins. Before starting, Emily taught Michael the importance of wearing an apron and scooting a chair from the table to the counter. That way, they can really get in on all the action!
They both relished the hands-on work, helping with the measuring, pouring, and mixing.

Mikey had fun for the most part. He did get a little upset when I insisted he couldn't sample the mixture consisting of raw eggs and milk. That's the hardest part of baking with kids--keeping their fingers out of the food, and the food out of their mouths before it's done.
I'm loving the manly attire - no shirt, and an apron. He knows he's cool. And Emi's pose in the first shot couldn't get more feminine. :)
ReplyDeleteOur kids always ask if our batter has "rotten" eggs in it, instead of "raw" eggs. Slight difference, but they're not allowed to eat either. :)
Mikey is huge! If you guys stay as far away as you are now, he'll barely even know me. Weird. I'll be old uncle Chris that he's met 3 times in his life at age 11. Sad.
ReplyDeleteChris, it's been an atypical travel year, and now we are way overdue for a visit to Mesquite!!! In the mean time, we should do more video chats. Mikey can watch you play guitar--I think he'd love that.
