Make-believe

Monday afternoon was full of big adventures for Emily. The first--a fishing trip. She was seated at the edge of her bed with her fishing line dangling in the "water". What I loved most was seeing her seated with her little pup.

Later she found this "riding cap" (the riding cap is from watching The Saddle Club movie) and pretended to be Cowgirl Dora riding away. Emily is a big Dora fan. It is so funny to see Emily make believe. I can't believe how good she is at it! It's so funny when I think that I spend my time with someone who pretends she's someone else interacting with things I can't see. What a kid!

  1. These are great pictures! It catches me off guard when Seth does make-believe too. It's a whole higher level of intelligence to pretend something when it's not real. Seth's latest is being Lightning McQueen. "WaiQuiing"

One time Jonathan was describing something exciting he had done in make believe, and I was following along and said, "Really?" in awe. He didn't even miss a beat and responded, "No, pretendy."

  2. Oh I love some of the characters from Cars...they're really cool! It's so great that kids can just be who they want to be whenever. I like to see who they pretend to be. Not that long ago Emily also pretended that she was Sara, Adam was Grandpa, and I was Grandma.
How smart of Jonathan to say, "No, pretendy." He was really listening to you in your conversation to catch that one.

  4. I love how she looks so mellow and serene when she's playing! Maybe you just caught her in calm moments, but I don't think my boys ride horses without a whole lot of motion and some pretty intense faces. It is just looks like such a sweet style of play.
Although it's so refreshing for once to see a calm Dora. . .Good night, that girl can scream. And she does it the entire show. "Say it LOOUUDERRR!!" Cracks me up just thinking about her.

Yeah, you've got that right about Dora. She's so funny when she talks, no, exclaims! It's still a cool show right? I mean, we get to learn some Espanol and catchy tunes. :)

I tried to get Emi to do something crazy, but she was in a very mellow mood. Maybe it was the blue hat. Kind of restricting. She's definitely more calm than the boys, but there are times when it seems she'd dance and talk forever!

  6. I love being a part of someone else's childhood, how magical and precious and fleeting. So, you know you are having a good mom moment when you can stop time, let go of the future pressures and join their world, unaware of anything but the moment. Those are my favorite times in life. They make everything beautiful.
