Pick Me a Blueberry

I have been wanting to post some of our summer highlights for a while and now that summer really is a memory (and something to look forward to) I'd better get to it. On a warm Saturday in July, our family drove out to Naches and picked blueberries to later store in our freezer.

We enjoyed visiting with a woman as she and her granddaughter worked in the neighboring row and told us about their wildlife refuge, small orchard, and life in the small town of Naches. We talked, and worked with our hands to fill two buckets full of berries. Robbie intentionally dumped blueberries out of the bucket (so fun for a two year old!), Tessa and I spent some time in the car nursing and cooling down, and the "big kids" did a good job selecting and sampling ripe berries. It really doesn't matter how much the kids are able to help, we just like them to be out appreciating getting the fruit while it is fresh.

  1. I learned to love blueberries from eating the ones you froze in Oregon. Yum. Sounds like a great family day.

  4. Reminds me of the classic children's story, "Blueberries for Sal." Have you read it? It's delightful.

How delicious and fun to get out and enjoy food and growth and life like that. What a wonderful family outing. :)
