Christmas Fun and Winter Weather

Adam and I helped Emily and Michael build graham cracker houses yesterday evening. They did all the decorating with just a little candy snitching.

My friend sent me her recipe for royal icing that worked extremely well.

1 box (1 lb) powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter
3 large egg whites
Combine all ingredients in large mixer bowl. Beat at medium speed until smooth. Increase speed to high and beat 5 minutes.
(You can use your left over egg yolks to make my favorite Christmas treat, English Toffee Squares)

A light dusting of snow fell Sunday night, and Monday morning Emily made the most of it and fearlessly skated in her cowgirl boots on the icey back patio.

  1. Your little girl looks just like you! When I was a kid we always made gingerbread houses too. To glue the houses together we melted sugar, ok well mom and dad did, it held really well and then we used the royal icing to add "snow" and glue on the candies. Hope you have a merry christmas!

  2. I love their houses! So much personality. That is just the house Seth would have built. Modest house, whatever, but the two car garage is a must. :) Those two boys are two of a kind in many ways I think. :) Seth had a hard time giving up Mikey's present. He finally decided it would be okay to give it to him if we could go up to Oregon to visit, and play with it with Mikey. :)

Thanks for the recipe too - that's a must for a good gingerbread house experience.

And Miss Emily is darling as an ice-skating cowgirl princess. Great form, nice angle, charming attire, excellent focus. 10.0 across the board. :)
